how we do things

We at the Cirencester Tuition Centre believe that the key to students learning efficiently and effectively is delivering quality subject material using the right learning techniques and resources according to the pupil's individual learning style. As everyone learns in different ways, it’s important for students to be able to work out what kind of learner they are.

We teach pupils from the age of 5 (phonics, basic numeracy, Spelling, Comprehension and Grammar), 11+ preparation (Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning alongside English and Maths), all the way up to GCSE exams and some A-Level courses.

We believe that learning is all about confidence, and we work tirelessly to ensure that we instil that confidence in every student that comes through our door.

We address our students’ needs by creating a bespoke plans tailored to their needs. This helps our students learn at optimum rates and retain information for longer periods of time.

Additionally, we prioritise in identifying any gaps in our pupils' foundations of learning so that they can build on this with confidence.

For maths- mental and written methods using the four operations (add, subtract, multiply and divide), fractions, decimals and percentages and knowing how to manipulate proportion with good language knowledge.

For English- spelling rules; developing vocabulary; exam techniques and understanding how to structure and plan writing; being able to answer exam questions with confidence appropriately according to the marks offered in the question.

By tutoring at our tuition centres in person we eliminate the fear and anxiety of learning in a busy, hectic environment and also the distractions of dogs, parents, Ipads and Snapchat at home. Tutors have all resources they need to hand and students can feel comfortable asking questions with the tools that they need to hand in order to get the best out of the session.

Our tutors know that motivation, confidence and self-esteem are paramount to delivering successful learning sessions. We take pride in the relationships that we make with our tutees and often parents come back year after year wanting tuition for younger siblings. Developing a consistent, personal and professional working relationship whereby the same tutor works with the same children each week is imperative to ensuring that these values are maintained.

A Swindon local, Luke Wareham, started Swindon Tuition Centre after seeing first-hand how tuition from a positive environment, delivered by inspirational tutors who teach quality learning techniques has a massive impact on the educational experience of the children he taught.

Luke started his career in education at Swindon College working as a 1:1 Support Assistant for a boy with severe autism and communication difficulties. This gave him a good grounding and insight into the world of autism and a real passion for making a difference for children who have special needs.

He then went on to University and did his degree in Primary Education at UWIC in Cardiff and specialised in Maths.

He spent a year working as an Newly Qualified Teacher in a very reputable school in North Swindon. He was given a year 4 class and a third of the pupils having some form of Learning Difficulties. This really bolstered his knowledge of interventions, scaffolding and differentiation- tools that he grew to rely on for his later career.

Next, he decided to work at St Luke's School for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health problems. This was where his passion for learning really was! Trying to teach and excite pupils who were adverse to traditional styles of teaching. Alongside tutoring in the evenings, he worked his way up the ranks to become an OfSTED graded 'Outstanding' teacher and also worked as Deputy Headteacher for a short period before taking the plunge to become self-employed and start his own tutoring business- 'The Swindon Tuition Centre'.

When he left, the headteacher asked Luke to work with some of the least engaged pupils from the school in his tuition centre and he still leads a team to help deliver high quality education to many pupils across Swindon that have SEMH. Local schools, Pupil Referral Units, Special Schools and the Swindon Local Authority work together with us to ensure that all pupils are included and have access to education, despite learning, mental health or emotional needs.

After years of hard work; growing a brilliant team of staff around him and some fantastic results to show for it, he has developed two Swindon Tuition Centres, one in the North of Bristol and now one in Cirencester. We are now at the point where we help a whole school’s worth of children with their education.
